The Pope's 'penitential pilgrimage' will focus on reparation, observers say

Thirty-five years after the last papal visit to an Indigenous community in Canada, Pope Francis is expected to deliver a markedly different message to First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities than did his predecessors. He is referring to the trip as “a penitential pilgrimage.”
